DTM, Michelle Gilstrap, club co-founder and
District 52 lieutenant governor education & training 2007 – 2008 organized
the district’s successful 50th Anniversary 2008 Spring Conference
held at Pickwick Gardens in Burbank, California. The highlight of the
conference for many was the inspiring keynote speech delivered by Dana Lamon,
DTM and the 1992 World Champion of Public Speaking. Well-done Michelle.
·
At the district conference, Michelle was voted
District 52 district governor for Toastmasters business year 2008 – 2009. She
takes office on July 1, 2008, succeeding Cora Soriano, 2007- 2008.

Five other club members attended the District 52
Spring Conference on May 17:
o Bill
Wingo
o Ron
Oberson, treasurer
o Aniceris
Cancel, vice president public relations and sergeant at arms
o Steven
Cavallero, president
o Cynthia
Gilstrap, who is also the District Bookstore chair

The club stepped out of its every-second-and-fourth-Saturday
meeting pattern to meet on Saturday, May 31, to accommodate the Memorial Day
holiday. We also stepped out of character to hold a second meeting on the same
day. More on that later.
Our first meeting was a spirited gathering, highlighted by
two speakers and an energetic round of Table Topics. Bill Wingo served as Toastmaster, and Steven
Cavallero as Table Topics Master and General Evaluator.
Peter Geissler, past district governor who just rejoined the
club the same day, delivered his second speech to complete the requirements to
earn his Competent Leadership under the old system. Called “Motivating People,”
it was part of the Excellence in Leadership Series.
DTM Michelle Gilstrap, club co-founder, district lieutenant
governor education and training and District 52 governor elect 2008-2009,
presented her second High Performance Leadership Project speech on the May 17
Spring District Conference that she organized. Michelle is applying her “District
Conference – The Final Results” speech towards her Advanced Leader Silver
award.
Peter was voted Best Speaker for his “Motivating People”
speech; Michelle was voted Best Evaluator for evaluating Peter’s speech; and
Steven, club president, was voted Best Table Topics speaker for his fanciful
tale of his Memorial Day visit to Brittany Spears’ yacht.
The club closed the first meeting and convened a second, a
rare and legitimate practice. Club Sergeant at Arms and Vice President Public
Relations, Aniceras Cancel, delivered Project No. 1 in the Advanced
Communication Series: Interpretive Reading by reading from a book by
XXXXXXXXXX.
We held this second meeting to give club members the
opportunity to complete their educational goals by the end of the Toastmaster
business year 2007-2008 that ends on June 30, 2008.
With that same end in sight, the club will hold two separate
meetings on
Saturday, June 14.
